About Leslie Driskill

Leslie Driskill is a scientist from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She enjoys reading, writing, hiking,  photography, genealogy, history, and traveling. Her favorite places to visit are National Parks, historic sites, and anywhere with a great view, especially at sunset. She has traveled to every state except Alaska and hopes to continue traveling internationally once the COVID-19 pandemic passes. When she isn't out exploring, she enjoys volunteering with The National Map Corps and Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps.

Glen Canyon Dam is an impressive work of engineering, measuring 710 feet high (220 meters). The dam was completed in 1966 and forms one of the largest man-made water reservoirs in the United States. This view is from the pedestrian walkway on the Glen Canyon Bridge, just downstream of the dam.

The Casco Bay Ferry runs from Portland to Peaks Island, Long Island, and the other small islands in the area. Dogs are allowed to ride the ferry, but must purchase a dog ticket. Peaks Island is a local favorite and features protected forest lands as well as an abandoned military bunker that is open to the public for exploration.

Santa Fe National Forest includes over 1.5 million acres of protected forest land in New Mexico. Camp for free by stopping at any of the dispersed camping pullouts throughout the forest. This view is from one of the natural hot springs near Jemez Falls. This was an excellent way to end a long day of hiking- by soaking in a hot spring and watching the sunset!
